About Us
’Never
forget Pela and Fadime’ is the translation of the name of this
organisation in the memory of two young women
that
were killed in
honour-related
violence. ‘Glöm Aldrig Pela och Fadime’ aims at helping
immigrant women and girls, in particular to make them aware about
their rights and where they can find help. In addition, the
organisation wants to raise the awareness about issues relating to
immigrant women in Swedish society.
The organisation also works to prevent violence against women by
bringing important questions to society through seminars and
discussion.
The organisation if a non-profit
organisation with four divisions in Sweden; Stockholm, Uppsala, Göteborg and Malmö. This
national organisation was the first to introduce the
silver-coloured Pela and Fadime ribbon (Pela och Fadime-bandet),
a universal symbol against honour
killing and in support of
youngsters exposed to honorary violence; the first to carry this
symbolic ribbon was the Swedish Minister of Schools, Ibrahim Baylan.
The organisation was founded in 2001
by Sara Mohammad by the name "Glöm Aldrig Pela", but soon
changed the name into the current name "Glöm Aldrig Pela and Fadime"
after the honour-related murder of Fadime Sahindal in 2002.
